Keeping your fly fishing tackle
organized in a vest or lumbar pack made specifically for fly
fishermen will help you keep track of all your fly fishing tackle
and enable you to carry all your gear with you at all times.
There are typically two types of fly
fishing vests. The first type of vest is made from a
meshed type of material that is specifically designed for fishing in
warmer weather. These vests are lighter and cooler than using
a winter or cold weather vest in the summer months. Both cold
weather vests and mesh warm weather vests have ample pockets for all
your flies and accessories as well as D-rings for clipping on
retractors for nippers, pliers or your net.
When shopping for a fly fishing vest
whether it is for warm or cold conditions, you want to make sure
that it has enough pockets for all your gear. It would be a
good idea to also consider if you will be wearing your vest in the
colder months. If that will be the case, be sure to get a vest
that will be big enough to allow for extra clothing you might
wear.
Fly fishing packs are a great
alternative to the fly vest. There are many different sizes
and types of packs that can be carried on your back, waist or
chest. The waist or chest packs are the most easily used
because there is no need to take it off to get to your gear. A
small waist pack is great when using minimal gear. Some chest
packs are good because they open up to give a little platform for
setting some of your supplies while you tie on a different
fly. No matter which on you pick, they are all made
specifically with the fly fisherman in mind.
